Salt Marsh

We saw some black-necked stilts in the salt pond.  Some of the other birds we saw were Canada goose, red winged blackbirds, egrets and avocets.

Birds migrate when the weather changes.  The sandpiper migrates from Alaska to the salt marsh.  We are pretending to be the flying sandpipers.  Some of the sandpipers died because there was not enough food for them in the salt marsh.

We got nets and buckets and got water from the slough.

We found out that brine shrimp live in salty water.  The female has a red sac that holds eggs.  A brine shrimp has 22 legs.  It eats algae in the pond.  Water boatman and birds eat the brine shrimp.
